The residents that we met there all seemed really happy with everything. We are moving into the ILF, and we have a small apartment -- a two-bedroom, bath and a half apartment. They are versatile in what you really want and need. As for activities, the reason why we are going there was because you are free to do what you want to do.
When you first walk in, it seemed very open, and the layout was nice, they have the nursing home, and assisted living in the same building, but it's separate. It's the same building, but the dining area is separating the two, so you go to the right for assisted living, and you go to the left for nursing care. It seemed pretty modern, and the apartments were nice.
Understanding the Differences Between Memory Care and Skilled Nursing
They not only cared FOR my husband's medical condition, they cared about him and our family! The staff here embraced our family's situation and encouraged and supported us, as well. DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE. My mother had been here for a year and a half. We wanted this to be her home and never have to move her again. As her condition got worse, they said she was too much to handle. When asked how she could get dehydrated the response was, we don't monitor them on how much they drink.
They're a little bit small, but it seemed like the way that they were laid out was pretty nice. The bathrooms were accessible for the handicapped, it was a good-sized bathroom. I have no real complaints, it seemed like the place was kept up pretty nicely. The person who gave the tour was very nice and kind of knowledgeable, but I think she might be kind of learning as she goes. It seems like she's recently had more duties added or something like that. So sometimes she seemed kind of iffy, but she seemed pretty knowledgeable.

They have a rehab wing where you can go for short-term care, and then there are people who are living longer term but would need some kind of nursing care or overseeing. They have a nice chapel, nice lobby and social areas, and a nice therapy room, and the people were very warm and welcoming. They do not put these alarms on all individuals; they use the alarm if needed. But they could put alarms on the back of the wheelchair and attached to a person’s shirt, and if they tried to get up then it would just connect because of the magnet attached. They are one of the few that still could put a bed alarm and would still put a bed alarm on if it was necessary to indicate a shift in weight or that the person had left the bed, so that they would come.
She will never be back and I do not recommend this place to anyone with dementia. My mom has moved into Genacross Lutheran Services Wolf Creek. My mom has a bedroom, a bathroom, a nice living room, a microwave, and a small refrigerator.
About Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek
We did not see any residents, so I don't know whether it was just the wrong time of the day or if they all just stayed in their apartments or what. I love the whole community of Genacross Lutheran Services - Wolf Creek Campus. I love the manager, and everyone is very nice and very friendly. The location is good, as well as what they offer.
My mother-in-law is very well taken care of there. They take care of all her and our needs and questions. They have assisted living, also, and a couple of dining rooms, chapel there, a beauty salon, and a community room where somebody on the weekends comes in and plays music.
